WHAT IS NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which explores the relationship between our brains, our language and our bodies. NLP is a pragmatic school of thought - an 'epistemology' (theory of knowledge).
NLP originated when Richard Bandler and John Grinder began making explicit models of human excellence using their backgrounds in linguistics, mathematics and psychology. They modelled Milton Erickson, founder of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and one of the most widely acknowledged and clinically successful psychiatrists of our times. They identified the verbal and behavioural patterns of therapists Fritz Perls (the creator of gestalt therapy) and Virginia Satir (internationally renowned family therapist).
NLP presupposes that the most effective and resourceful people, are those whose map of the world allows them to perceive the greatest number of available choices and perspectives. The application of NLP enriches the choices that you have (or perceive) available in the world around you. Excellence comes from having many choices. Wisdom comes from having multiple perspectives.
